COLLECTION #257: Sugar and Cream Sets

Aren't these fun? I have a variety of little sugar and cream sets, ranging from  old (my silver set that was a wedding gift to my parents 73 years ago), to a modern set from Target. Most everything is somewhere in between.  I love them all!

I'll start with the silver set- I'm sure it's silver plated, and is manufactured by the WB Manufacturing Company, probably in the 1930s. I'm so glad my Mom gave it to us, because it's something that I always remember being in our home my whole life.

The blue and white phoenix set has an unknown manufacture & date, there were many companies that made this pattern, from Europe to Japan, and I'm sure this is an inexpensive set. I have many other pieces, some of which I displayed in an earlier post.

The cute English Village set was featured recently, and was a gift from my Mom. She brought it back from England. I have no idea if it was new or vintage when she got it, but my guess is that it was new. She brought it home about 20 years ago.

I love my pale green sugar and creamer. I believe they are from Poppy Trail (because I have a marked platter that matches, but I can't be 100% sure). My guess is they are from the late 1930s or '40s.

Next is a set of 'honeybee' pottery, which was a wedding present to us,  34 years ago. When we received it, I had the feeling it was antique then, but I never thought to ask the giver. So, since there are only numbers on the bottom and no name, and I have been unsuccessful in IDing it from the internet, I'll just leave it as a mystery set. I love it!

On the top row, I have my wonderful Franciscan Desert Rose set, from the 1950s, and a modern set, pale blue and white stripes, from Target.

I wonder if any of you have some sugar and cream sets in your home? I'll tell you one thing- I've never used them for sugar or cream!

COLLECTION #208: Fruit-Themed Kitchen Stuff

I just love fruit! Yummy to eat, and fun and colorful to look at! Doesn't every kitchen look more cheery with a bowl on the table, counter or island, full of apples, oranges, bananas? Designers of fabric, ceramics, and kitchenware of all kinds, discovered the popularity of fruit as a theme back in the '30s and '40s, and you can often discover wonderful vintage canisters, table linens, dishes, and other kitchen accessories for a reasonable price at flea markets and online auctions. I have a plethora of colorful fruity ware... I like it so much, that my kitchen color scheme is red and white, with green and yellow as accent colors. Most of my fruit themed items are vintage, but I pick up modern items from time to time, that feature a retro look.  About ten years ago, Martha Stewart had a retro kitchen linen line at K-mart, and I bought everything I could get my hands on: tea towels, place mats, pot holders, etc. When they were discontinued, I picked up a few more items on closeout before they completely disappeared.  Target had a wonderful cherry themed retro kitchen pottery line. I believe I bought everything I could: canisters, napkin holder, salt and pepper shakers, mugs. Like the Martha Stewart line at K-Mart, it's long gone, and I can't even find replacements online.

But I much prefer my vintage items. I have several linens: tablecloths and tea towels, tin canisters, and a cute flour sifter with apples on it. I also adore a fun little strawberry wall decoration... it's probably from the 1940s or early '50s. It hangs above my stove with some colorful tin signs.

COLLECTION #136: Light Blue Pottery

I just love how restful light blue is... it just makes me want to pull out a hammock and take a nap next to the blue ocean.

My pretty blue things came from a variety of sources- from Target to Wedgewood to Fiesta Ware.  The cute little striped set came from Target.

The large blue salt and pepper shakers with the sweet flowers on the handles, belonged to my parents, and I believed they had them their entire marriage. (they were married in 1939). The pitcher on the top left is Fiesta Ware, as are the salt & pepper shakers. I'm not sure about the other two pitchers.

The Wedgewood mini plate was given to me by my brother Gene, when he was living in England in the late '70s, early '80s. It's the Tower of London. Isn't it sweet?
